FAQ

What is home medical equipment?

Home medical equipment is a category of devices used by people who receive care at home from non-professional caregivers or family members.

What will my insurance cover?

Coverage will vary by the insurance policy. If you need medical equipment prescribed by your physician, we will contact your insurance to learn the details of your plan’s coverage. Please note that some insurance policies require us to get prior authorization for some medical devices before we can give it to you. This process can take anywhere from five to 20 days.

Does Medicare cover home medical equipment?

Medicare covers a variety of home medical equipment. The list includes:

  • Wheelchairs
  • Hospital beds
  • Canes
  • Crutches
  • Walkers
  • Orthopedic bracing
  • PAP devices
  • Oxygen
  • Ventilators
  • Pressure mattresses
  • Lifts
  • Apnea monitors
  • Other supplies
Can I rent equipment?

Most of our equipment is rentable. For medical equipment prescribed by a physician, your insurance company may determine if the device is billed as a rental or purchase. If you have a short-term need for a device, we do offer rentals. Most rentals are a monthly fee.

Does Desantis Medical Supply buy back home medical equipment?

As directed by our accreditation standards, Desantis Medical Supply does not buy back equipment previously purchased by a patient or insurance company.

We do accept some equipment donations from individuals who wish to donate devices to a specific department or to patients with financial hardship. We only accept equipment that properly functions and meets all the manufacturer’s recommendations.
